The Project: Design an admission sign/brochure for the CSU College of Business Impact MBA program

My Role: Lead Graphic Designer

Design Program Used: Adobe Illustrator

The Process: Began with collaborative design analysis and brainstorming with Senior UI/UX Designer taking direct inspiration from the general CSU Admission brochure (https://bit.ly/30SBbwN). Objectively stayed true to the College of Business brand guidelines and style sheets, including fonts, colors, and photography. Emphasized the program's vision 'Business for a Better World' on the cover, promoting the program's mission to produce sustainable future business leaders. Worked directly with copywriters to strategically create a checklist for new students to take immediate action. Concluded project on time after weeks of design iteration and polished copy.

Greatest Challenge: Designing a brochure that folds into four separate pages with limited content was difficult to achieve a bold look. We overcame this by allowing Colorado photography speak for itself, showcasing the academic program location and attracting new students moving to Colorado. A photo speaks a thousand words, and one of the goals of this brochure is to convey the beauty of Colorado in hopes of instilling motivation to inspire sustainable business practices, hence the vision, 'Business for a Better World'.

Two Different Projects, Similar in Nature: Refresh the College of Business Management and Accounting Department Newsletters (Simultaneously)

My Role: Lead Student Graphic Designer

Design Program Used: Adobe InDesign

The Process: The two-month process began with collaborative design analysis with Senior UI/UX Designer for newsletter layouts, custom iconography, event photography, and polished copy. My primary responsibilities consisted of infographic design, layout and organization, and sourcing event photography. I objectively stayed true to both the management and accounting department’s branding and style guides to build a consistent and familiar look and feel. We concluded the project on time after weeks of back and forth revisions, infographic iteration, and finalized copy length.

Greatest Challenge: One of the challenges I faced was the constant and unpredictable copy changes, which resulted in inefficient page counts. The uneven page counts made content organization and flow tricky due to the amount of imagery on each page. We overcame this issue through iterations of image resizing, editing indirect copy into more direct writing, and assigning a visual hierarchy of importance per topic based on relevance and image size to meet the printable multiple of four-page length.

Aside from the continually evolving description copy length and style, project prioritization was vital. I learned to project manage my tasks more efficiently and productively by segmenting portions of the newsletters into categories. For example, I would dedicate an entire shift (2-4 hours) to infographic design or image asset organization for both newsletters; this allowed me to stay organized and objectively on track for both projects.
